What is a better everyday eye makeup look? Lining the waterline or filling in the lashline?

A

Hi anon, I guess it depends on your eyes? I think filling in the lashline suits most people, and you don’t have to do a dramatic cat-eye, a thin black line is enough. Accenting the lashes (liner + mascara, including lower lashes) makes my eyes seem more open, whereas waterlining can make them look small.

Hi! My name is Keri & I just launched a blog, Ceremonia check out our main blog link. We focus on a laid back, artful, and individual approach to wedding attire. I read your comment on Into The Gloss "I can't ever top my mom who married in a mexican lace dress..." It was awesome and struck me as the very heart of what we are promoting on our blog. We are looking for stories if you're interested in writing something about your mom? check out the "blog submissions" page. I love your blog!

Sorry for answering so late, I’m not sure if I have anything very interesting to add to this? Thanks for asking though x

What are healthy ways to be slim? Like when you don't need to lose weight, but you'd like to lose a few pounds. I'm asking you because you seem like a rational person who understands balance. Thanks.

Hi Esther, What are your favorite perfumes?

A

Hi Anon, I’m currently finishing Endymion by Penhaligon’s. On a recent trip to Paris I tried Malaise of the 1970s from Etat Libre d’Orange. And I always add some musk oil from Khiel’s when I feel like it.

Not dead yet, anon! Thanks for asking.

trendy vs permanent

About 3 or 4 years ago nipple piercings became super fashionable, I believe they were made popular by models such as Freja Beha. Today it seems to be septum piercings, with the high-fashion version made by Givenchy and the everyday one featured heavily on Into The Gloss (thanks to J Colby Smith).

But I’m wondering, what happens when the trend fades? Do people keep the jewel? I guess an advantage of piercings (vs tattoos) is that you can remove it with minimal remnants. I removed mine because of an infection but I don’t know what I would’ve done otherwise.

SS14 campaigns in 30 seconds

The pic for CELINE captures the energy of the show and the negative frame makes for a great graphic impact against the brush strokes on the clothes. Still not convinced on the heels.

I sort of hate the clothes on display at BALENCIAGA (is that a sort of mesh thong stiletto sandal?) but the Parisian sleeping beauty decor and Daria’s b&w slicked back hair still makes me want to be that girl.

The PRADA show was genius and the very flat image that looks like a fresco is making it hard for the eye to know what’s going on at first glance. And that’s what makes it great!

Again, thong heels! The surrealist image is beautiful, the colours pop just so ; cheers KENZO for bringing Devon Aoki back.

The ALEXANDER WANG ad is tacky in the best way but it makes me think our boy Alex is trying a lil bit too hard to keep his own brand fresh and young as opposed to the super Parisian Balenciaga.

Nothing to say on the PROENZA SCHOULER one. It’s perfect and reminds me of that Juergen Teller-sho Marc Jacobs campaign in the apple orchard (this is a compliment).

Remember a couple years ago when baja hoodies came back in fashion? (I blame you STOP IT RIGHT NOW) Rag & Bone came up with a winter version for FW14.

zip it up

Zip boots are nothing new, I’m not sure why I’m only craving them now. Oh actually I know.

2 different ages, 2 different styles. Zip boots are the Chloë Sevigny of boots. They’re cool without trying, but they don’t confuse effortless with generic and you still know that some thought has gone into them. Zip boots say, “my life is so busy and interesting that I don’t have time to waste on tying up shoe laces.” And if you’re gonna zip, boy you’re gonna ZIP and let people know, for these are not wallflower zips that you hide in the back or on the inside of the shoe.

A quick research on the interwebs taught me the silver boots above are made by a brand called Forfex. This particular colour is sold out but you can get them in black patent with a thinner sole.

Forfex Zip boots hi sole shine, $320.

If you like the thick sole and the zip but not the military look, may I suggest the Underground Zip Creepers, £94. Bonus points for the ponyskin details.

For a more… Swedish look (I think the first time I noticed cool zip boots they were worn by this cool Swedish girl - is that a pleonasm? - who was working at that cool brand I was interning for) and an elevated silhouette, my favourite of the bunch might just be the H by Hudson Piper black zip front heeled ankle boots, £160.

I’m not a baglady

Although I probably smell, sometimes, maybe.

I am starting to think I’m not super into bags as a reaction to my mom who owns enough bags to wear a different one every day of the year. Don’t worry, I buy a lot of shoes.

I seem to carry really heavy things/am clumsy, as a result all the straps of my bags break within a week. I owe my signature clutches (did you barf when I said “signature”?) to this sad truth.

I’ve been craving bucket bags lately though. Here’s my selection:

1. The aspirational bag: Mansur Gavriel bucket bag, 495$. Sadly can’t afford it as I bought 3 pairs of shoes this month (one was almost free, one was reasonable and one cost an arm, even at 50% off).

image

2. The throwback bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs ‘Too Hot To Handle’, 187£. I’m not sure if I had a bag like this as a kid, but its size reminds me of when all I had to carry in my bag was like, 3 pencils and a granola bar.

image

3. The ‘sure, why not?’ bag: & other stories leather bag, 95£. While I suspect the rope drawstring that also serves as a strap isn’t the most practical thing ever, it looks pretty cool in its lack of sophistication (you could call it minimalism).
